Meet our residents
Vibert Betton
Vibert, a member of the Regional Residents’ Panel, tells us why he decided to get involved in resident involvement.
"I’m retired and have got time on my hands, but the main reason I got involved was because I thought I could make a difference to the place where I live. I believe MHT takes on board and acts on some of the issues that residents raise. I pass on the comments of other residents when things are going wrong. An example of this is where the entrance to Corry Drive on the Moorlands Estate started sinking recently due to repairs not being carried out properly.
Resident involvement has made me well known on the estate where I live. It has also enabled me to see both sides of the coin - from the resident and MHT perspective. Because of my involvement I can answer other residents' questions about what MHT is doing and explain why they are doing it.
Through resident involvement I attend meetings about important issues. I was also involved in setting up the Golden Age Group - a successful community initiative for people aged 50+ on the Moorlands Estate.
I find it disappointing that residents are unwilling to come together to form a residents' association. I've been living on the Moorlands Estate for just under four years and have seen three attempts to form an association. It would be great if other residents out there, who feel the way I do, would contact MHT about starting a residents' group. I believe people should get involved because there are things they need in their homes and neighbourhoods. Resident involvement gives me a sense of purpose."
