Our Initiatives

Outreach workers
We funded a Turkish speaking Outreach Worker to engage residents and consult with them on the services they receive and factors which affect their quality of life.

Volunteers
Establishing a group of regular volunteers to work with project coordinators.

Office space
Acquiring office space in a local voluntary sector organisation as a place for people to meet, holding meetings and run courses.

Bilingual communication
Used in all settings where appropriate, including:

KATRE
We established the first Kurdish and Turkish Residents Association (KATRE) in Enfield. What did this do?

Drop in and monthly public information meetings
We offered bi-monthly drop-in sessions and monthly public information meetings, with interpreters – to provide advice and find out issues affecting the community.

ESOL
English language classes operating from local neighbourhood office, available to residents.

Elders Group
Supporting elders in creating their own group to discuss meet, socialise and discuss issues affecting them.

Support people in gaining skills
Providing courses and funding to enable residents to start own projects, including:

Community development
Delivery of numerous community development projects which provide a platform for engagement e.g. drama project, horticulture training for women and knife crime awareness project (Link to any examples for case study?)

Partnerships
Identifying and forming partnerships with other organisations that work with BME communities and with other excluded BME communities. For example:
